When it comes to opportunity, there is no such thing as luck because luck is when opportunity meets preparedness. Luck is if I walk out the door and on my drive to the store a winning lottery ticket falls onto my windshield. But if I buy a ticket and win the lottery, it is not luck, I intended to win when I made the purchase. However, the dictionary defines opportunity as a set of circumstances that makes it possible to do something. But what “luck” nor the definition does is include is the human factor involved with making opportunities a reality.
Being prepared and having the circumstance available is only half the battle when it comes to opportunity. Are you ready to seize the moment when opportunity arrives? Many factors can make it hard for someone to act and take grab the opportunity availed to them. An individual may be fearful of leaving their comfort zone or are not willing to take a risk because the have family obligations and the opportunity is too much of a risk at that moment.
Then there are the individuals who jump at every opportunity that becomes available. These individuals do not see the positives in selecting the right opportunity. They take the first one that pops up and they continue this pattern until the line between opportunity and challenges becomes blurred.
It is more than being prepared for opportunities when they arrive. It is about being prepared for the right opportunity that meets your needs when it arrives. If the right opportunity does not present itself then you make your own opportunities come to fruition. Opportunities become available but it requires effort, continuous learning, and most importantly passion.
Having the passion for what you do and combining it with effort, grit and determination will create more opportunities than you can imagine. But it all starts with being prepared. Have you put in the work, have you continued to learn and are you passionate about what you do? If the answer is yes, then you are ready to push “luck” and circumstances to the side and seize opportunity in a bear hug.
